The Bentley Blower was developed around the Bentley 4½ Litre, with Sir Henry "Tim" Birkin championing the use of a supercharger to increase performance.
Bentley's official history explains that Birkin worked with engineer Amherst Villiers on the supercharger concept, while Dorothy Paget provided crucial financial support for the racing programme. The resulting supercharged Bentley became known as the Blower.
The supercharged 4½ Litre Bentley increased power from around 110 bhp to approximately 175 bhp, giving the car the dramatic performance that helped establish its legendary reputation.
